My New Headset!

Yep. It's here. Newegg never fails to impress me. :D You can go here to view the product itself. I'm spending some good time listening to the amazing audio quality...just wow. It's USB powered too! The bass response on these are amazing...I haven't tested the microphone quality yet, although I know the mic. works from being able to hear my voice coming through the speakers. I'll record a sample and see how it sounds, then get to work on production stuff for TOP. :)

Yay! Flowcharty Goodness!

Gliffy is amazing for collaborating and making flow charts, floorplans, and everything along those lines. I just discovered it today. :) There's my flow chart, though, for the basic episode structure of the new generation of TOP. As it says, I don't have the segments figured out yet, though. That'll be done soon. My new dilligent, hard-working self will see to it. ^_^ I'm also designing a new site specifically for TOP, instead of using Blogger. Not that I dislike Blogger or anything, I just don't feel like it's enough for my needs. I want CMS capabilities...so maybe I'll do a Drupal overhaul and add some fancy new Web 2.0 eye candy. Expect more posts from me soon!

ZOMG!!!111oneone More TOP, You Say?!?!

Heh, sorry I got kinda excentric there with the title. I am, however, very excited!! TOP will be coming again! Yes, I know, I've said that a million times. This time it's true. I just ordered a new headset via Newegg (my last one broke) and it should be here Wednesday, or possibly Thursday if I'm unlucky. I don't know what it is with me and Logitech...I have a Logitech mouse...the Logitech G15 keyboard...now I'm getting yet another Logitech item to replace the cheaper Logitech headset that I have that broke. What can I say? I'm a Logitech fanboy. (No I don't get paid to say that. How I wish I did though...) Yep so according to UPS/Newegg my headset shipped at 1:47AM today!! I love those early-morning surprises. I really hope TOP becomes a weekly occurrence, because I really like podcasting...I just don't know what it is about TOP that makes me not want to do it. I've been thinking a lot about this and really meaning to say this; I think I'm going to change TOP around a little bit. There are too many tech news podcasts out there. If this was the "Tech News Podcast" then it would be named TNP...right? I don't know. By the time I get my headset, I hope to be completely decided, and have a cool little home grown flowchart or something that shows how the show will be divied up segment-wise. I hope you guys are ready for a great upcoming season of TOP!

Wow...sure has been a while.

After enjoying a much needed break from updating my blog(s), I have discovered the issue behind the mysterious static noise when I record with my Electrovoice RE-20 and my Mackie 1202-VLZ Pro. I need shielded RCA cables. That and some shielded 1/4" connectors/adaptors...*sigh*. Oh well. I'll try to get those soon...but until then, don't expect any new material...my headset broke a few days ago. Plus, I don't have the time to record anything this week, even if I did have working equipment. I'm at a C++ class for the next two weeks, and then...FREEDOM! Not that I don't want to take the class, it's just a lot of time out of my schedule that I could be using to discover devious ways of making money for my next laptop. Yes, now I need a new laptop. My stupid eMachines one is dying slowly and painfully...yet again. I'm getting tired of its unreliability and stupid slow speeds. I'm currently set on getting a modified Dell Inspiron E1705, which, after modifications, costs $1500. It should be pretty decent for gaming too...considering it will have a 256MB nVidia GeForce Go 7900GS, 1GB of RAM, and a 1.66GHz Intel Core Duo. 17" screen is nice too. :) Yep but I need more money, so either way, it'll probably be a little while untile I get either of those things. Just wanted to let everyone know that I'm not dead...TOP will come back eventually, just now right this minute. Sorry.

TOP Is Coming Soon...Again!

Just $200 until I can get my new power supply and processor, then I can support my mixer and expensive microphone. My new desktop will have an 8 channel sound card with a ton of options, and I know for a fact that there are a few different built-in ports that I can run the audio from the mixer directly into, without using 400 different adapters...which I had to do with my laptop. Plus, when I used my mixer with my laptop there was this weird buzzing every time my processor usage spiked. Anyways, my birthday is a month from yesterday (June 2nd), so I should be able to get all kinds of new games and parts for my desktop. After I move everything important over to my desktop, I'll convert my laptop into a linux-only laptop. Super fun. :) Any time I need Windows on this laptop I'll just remote desktop over to it using Hamachi.

Data Loss :(

I had a major hard drive failure recently. That’s why I haven’t been making normal posts on my site. The good thing is that I had most of my important data backed up. However, the TOP episode I was working on was completely lost. I have tried using an “undelete” utility…several actually…but to no avail. I should be able to re-record what was lost this weekend, as long as I’m not doing anything.

TOP Episode 1.5

SWEET, NEW EQUIPMENT!!!!

I just received around $2000 dollars worth of equipment from my uncle, FREE! A Mackie 1202-VLZ Pro Mixer ($400), an ElectroVoice RE20 mic ($800), a DOD SR830QXLR equalizing box ($100), an Alesis NanoVerb 18 bit digital effects processor ($100), a 20-watt microphone amplifier box ($100), and a Darla 24 Multitrack PCI Card Recorder (around $150). I hope to put these things to work very soon, all I need is some decent cables to hook up to my laptop for recording! The mic sounds great, and the mixer works great. The eqipment was never used before, so I'm the first to lay fingers upon it. I feel very lucky right now. :)

Okay, I don't quite know when my podcast will be in it's beta phase. Hopefully this weekend. I may or may not circulate it throughout the net, depending on quality and content. It will definitely be ready after next weekend, I have no doubt in my mind. I should probably get to the testing...

Episode Frequency

I'm not quite sure when to do the show. I know I will be doing it once a week, but the question is what day to do it...? Maybe I should record on the weekends (end of Friday to Sunday), and have it up Monday...yeah that sounds good. I'll do that. Now all I need to do is find some content for the first episode, record, edit, and upload. Stay tuned for more updates.
